Description

French Toast Sticks are the ultimate easy, fun, and irresistibly crispy breakfast treat. With a golden outside, soft custardy inside, and perfect dippable shape, they’re a hit with both kids and adults. Ready in under 20 minutes, freezer-friendly, and great for brunch boards, they’re an instant morning classic you’ll want to make again and again.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 slices thick-cut bread (Texas toast, brioche, or challah)
  • 4 large eggs
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon sugar (optional)
  • Butter or cooking spray (for pan)
  • Maple syrup, powdered sugar, or fruit (for serving)

Optional Add-Ins:

  • Pinch of nutmeg or pumpkin spice
  • Splash of heavy cream
  • Flavored syrups

Instructions

  1. Prep Bread: Cut each slice into 3–4 vertical sticks. Use day-old bread if possible.
  2. Make Egg Mixture: Whisk eggs, milk, cinnamon, vanilla, and optional sugar.
  3. Heat Pan: Add butter or spray to a skillet over medium heat.
  4. Dip & Cook: Quickly dip each stick into the mixture and place on the hot pan. Do not oversoak.
  5. Brown All Sides: Cook 2–3 minutes per side until golden and crisp.
  6. Serve Warm: Plate immediately with syrup, fruit, powdered sugar, or yogurt.

Notes

  • Use stale or day-old bread for best crispiness.
  • Do not oversoak—quick dipping prevents sogginess.
  • Preheat the pan fully for even browning.
  • Freeze cooked sticks in a single layer, then store in a freezer bag.
  • Reheat in air fryer or toaster oven for best texture.

Flavor Variations:

  • Pumpkin Spice: Add seasonal spices.
  • Stuffed: Spread Nutella or cream cheese between slices before cutting.
  • Savory: Skip cinnamon, add cheese and herbs.
  • Tropical: Top with mango and coconut flakes.
